***Marley is a courtesy post, meaning she is not an OBG dog.  Her current owner has requested OBG's help in rehoming her.  If you inquire about adopting Marley, her owner will work directly with you and will make all decisions involved in rehoming Marley, including making any decisions regarding homechecks and adoption fees to be paid to the owner.  OBG makes no warranties or guarantees of any sort regarding the health or temperament of this dog and accepts no liability in regards to the adoption of this dog.***

Marley is a sweet shepherd/chow mix, approximately 8 yrs old.   But in her eight years, this gentle girl hasn't had a ton of attention or affection, so whoever adopts her will receive a rare, beautiful gift.  They'll get to see a dog that is learning to be more of a dog, and have the chance to witness so many new accomplishments, like a proud mom or dad seeing their baby walk for the first time.

She was a stray, so only part of her history is known.  For the past 3 years she lived with a family who had a wireless fence and just left her out in the yard or in a kennel.  It was not safe for her, because every once in awhile she would wander out of the zone and disappear for a couple days.  She is currently with a foster that has a fenced yard, and we all like that much better!

Her foster family says that "she is so gentle when she takes food off of my fingers, almost like a baby. She just gets very happy, her tail wagging, and a big smile on her face when she wants to come inside or when she is hungry – like a kid who gets a big piece of cake with tons of icing. She is very eager and her eyes light up with joy."  Wouldn't you like this to be you?

Marley is a dream - she's easygoing and gets along well with children, other dogs (big and small), cats, you name it.  She does not jump up, rarely barks and, most importantly, doesn't have a mean bone in her body!  She's not a lap dog - yet - but we're working on it, along with learning "sit" and "come."  She has a thick coat that needs brushing out regularly during shedding season, but that's nothing compared to the grooming regimen of our cocker spaniels!

We don't know exactly what her old life was like, but we do know it left a few impressions that we're helping her with.  She tends to reflexively shrink from pats on the head, but she's getting much better at realizing those are a good thing.  Since she was used to being outside most of the time or kenneled when inside, she's had some accidents in the home because free rein is new to her.  When she is penned in the kitchen overnight and when the fosters are away, she has no accidents at all.  She does like to chew, so a busy bone and food puzzles are great rewards for this smart gal.

Medically speaking, she doesn’t have the perfect sight or hearing, but gets around just fine.  She has had a few seizures in the last 3 years, but not recently in a new foster home because now we have her on a daily inexpensive medicine for seizures and thyroid.

Marley is such a sweet girl and is looking for a wonderful, patient, loving home to call her own.  At this point in her life, she truly deserves it!
