Brandy

Brandy is a healthy, energetic two year old cocker who is cuter than cheeks on a baby! She loves to run the birds, rabbits and squirrels out of the bushes and thinks that the falling leaves are toys to chase. The first two years of Brandy's life, however, did not look anything like today. She did not know any other dogs. She didn't have toys. She only knew to be afraid of people. What must have been a terrifying day - the day she was unceremoniously dumped at a shelter in rural Virginia - turned out to be the start of something great. She received excellent care by the staff there and they worked hard to get her to us here at OBG. Two foster families have helped Brandy learn the joy of just being a DOG. It's wonderful to see her sniffing the fall air, pulling me to ask for a longer walk, chasing a ball and (forgive me) begging for something off of my dinner plate! As of today she has decided that every dog she meets outside is probably a friend in the making. She has learned that people are not a threat so she no longer barks at everyone (what a relief!) She still shies away from people she doesn't know reaching to pet her. As of yet there appears to be no making peace with kids, strollers, skate boards or motorcycles. Inside of her house she is wary of other dogs and complains a lot when she is anxious about what they are up to. She is very, very concerned that everyone wants to eat her kibble and guards it always. We continue to work towards "happily ever after". For Brandy that will be with a loving and experienced dog owner. There are a few quirks to this half pint that will only resolve with time, love and understanding. The reward? A snuggly, playful pooch who loves to walk with you and will make you smile with pride at how far she has come!
