Oldies But GoodiesSenior Dog ProgramOlder dogs are often discarded because they are no longer considered "young" or "fun." These wonderful dogs still have years of life and love to give, and despite common beliefs, they adapt very well to a new household. Older dogs are typically difficult to place in adoptions because of their age and feared medical issues and costs. The average lifespan of a cocker spaniel is 13 to 15 years. Because Oldies but Goodies was initially established to accept the older cockers that are typically overlooked, OBG has a larger number of senior dogs than most other rescue groups in the U.S. To put it simply: We Love Our Senior Dogs! Most OBG volunteers pick a senior dog when it comes to adopting a pet for our own. Senior dogs are wonderful companion animals. Older pets are usually housebroken; they no longer chew on the family slippers and while most enjoy an active life, they are much more calm and quieter. Rather than driving you crazy as a young puppy would, they are more likely to provide a calming effect and probably do wonders for your blood pressure as they curl up at your feet at the end of the day.
