Betsy
A little starveling stray, maybe six to eight years old, found abandoned in a parking lot. But amazingly Betsy is as adorable and cuddly as a hand-fed puppy. She started to fit in immediately with the other cockers at her foster home. In fact, she looks charmingly younger than the "official" estimates. She had to have one canine tooth removed, but she doesn't have any major health problems. She is alert, energetic, and happy, and she's a good eater; she is now at a good, normal weight. Betsy is very well-behaved when she takes a bath. Long walks are an exciting chance to investigate the neighborhood. She savors dog treats along with all her new foster sisters, waiting (almost patiently) until her turn comes. She does stand on her hind legs to beg for food but gets down right away when commanded. She absolutely has to be with her family every moment. A simple invitation will bring her bounding off the floor and into your lap, where she will sleep for an hour or two. And she simply loves it if you gently comb the hair on her head. Unfortunately, she gets excited and barks for almost any reason -- people coming home, supper, toys, worry, a cat, a knock at the door, etc. Her nerves have been badly jangled by the frights from her past. She ducks if she thinks your hand is coming toward her head. She tries to bite if you take hold of her muzzle. She displays fear, expressed as hostile aggression, at unexpected times. It will take some time until she learns that her new folks will never hit her. She is particularly nervous about food, about play, and about men. Her foster parents recommend that she would function best for now in a home with women only, no cats, and preferably no other dogs. She is still trying to learn good house manners, too. She has emotional needs as well as nutritional. But she is rehabilitating, and with love she can someday overcome all her jitters. Betsy is a work in progress, and to the right person willing to accept the challenge she can become the sweet addition to the family that she was meant to be. Her liquid eyes, soft coat, and petite figure are sure to make some understanding soul fall deeply in love with her. Could that person be you?
