Rollie came from a county shelter, and he had so much hair that we couldn't see his eyes or tell that he had white markings buried under his black fur. We shaved him down. Now his hair has grown back and he looks like a cocker again with curly black fur. He’s a big boy at around 47 pounds. He had lost some weight in the fall but he has put it back on during the winter. Now that the weather is getting better, he’ll be hitting the sidewalks again to slim down.

Rollie has been through a lot in his life. He is blind in his left eye but that doesn’t slow him down. His back legs are a little wobbly sometimes but that doesn’t stop him from enjoying walks. Stairs and getting into the car are a problem sometimes as his back legs don’t always cooperate. When we first took him to the vet, we thought he was deaf and blind because he didn’t respond to any noise or sound. He never barked. He was just there. But after a couple of months in his foster home, Rollie came back to life. We know he can hear because he’s usually the first one in line for a cookie when the pantry door is opened. He can see, although we are monitoring his eye for glaucoma. Rollie likes to hang out with his foster brother and sisters. He greets his foster mom at the door when she comes home from work and pushes the others out of the way to be first in line for a kiss and an ear rub. His little tail is wagging most of the time now.

Rollie's a very sweet guy. He likes to hang out with you. If you’re watching TV he’ll be lying next to you on the floor. If you’re fixing dinner, he’ll be lying in the kitchen, just feeling good knowing you’re there. He's good with other dogs and is not at all dominant. He isn’t bothered by cats and he’s not interested in any of the wildlife in the backyard. He loves to ride in the car. He's housebroken but cannot hold it all day. He stands by the back door when he needs to go out. He’s a good companion dog.

Rollie is a joy to walk. He doesn’t pull on the leash, he heels beautifully and he adjusts his pace to fit yours. He’s not one to play catch or run around the house or yard. He won’t chew your favorite shoes or hide your socks. He doesn’t get up on the furniture. His favorite things to do are sleep, eat and walk. He likes to be around other dogs and humans. He is as laid back as a dog can be.

Rollie appears to get along with everybody including children.  He's just looking for a place to nap, someone to take him on walks, and lots of love and hugs (with an occasional belly rub).
