Greetings. I know from time to time you put testimonials on your website
or use them to help raise funds. In appreciation for helping my
find my dog, I wanted to send this to you:
I had always wanted a dog of my own, and having recently moved into a home where
I could have a dog, well you know
what came next. I never thought of getting any dog other than a cocker
spaniel. Those eyes, those ears, and their sweet
Disposition, even of a bit protective. And, I wanted to find a dog that
really needed a home.
By searching on the Internet I found Oldies But Goodies Cocker Rescue. I
didn't know any of the people, but that soon changed.
The first step was so easy. I simply printed the form, filled-it out and
sent it in. Soon I had a home visit by one
of their many volunteers. He really helped me be prepared for the day I
would bring my new dog home. Not only was
there the physical aspects - bowls, food, crate - but just as important was how
I would teach, and reinforce, my new dog the behaviors I found
acceptable.
Oldies But Goodies volunteers talked with me about the many dogs being fostered.
They knew so much, and the more I told
them about my day-to-day lifestyle they were able to help guide me to the right
dog. Soon I was visiting adoption
fairs and meeting the wonderful dogs being fostered.
In the end their matchmaking didn't matter, because it was love at first sight
for Habibti, and me my new cocker spaniel!
After Habibti's previous owner died, she was given to the son who was keeping
her, and other dogs, in
chicken coops. Rescuers had found the dogs and convinced the owner to give
them up, and my Habibti was the first of the
dogs to be rescued. Soon she was taken to a local veterinarian, where she
stayed until Oldies But Goodies could
take her.
Habibti went right from the veterinarian's office to the adoption fair because
no foster homes were available.
My future companion was so scared, and brave. She rolled over and let me
pet her stomach. She loved having her ears
rubbed. I took her on a little walk outside of the pet store. She
was curious about everything, but timid.
Since I liked the dog, and there was no other home for her to go to, the Oldies
But Goodies volunteers said they would
allow me to take her home that day to stay with me until a foster home could be
found. Those Oldies But Goodies
volunteers knew what they were doing!
I went to my car to get the leash and collar I had. As I walked back into
the store I could hear a single dog emphatically barking. When I
stepped inside I saw that it was my future dog, because when she saw me she
stopped barking. I was the person she wanted, and I wanted her too.
It took awhile to things to settle down, but deciding to adopt her was one of
the best decisions I ever made.
When I want some advice, I call an Oldies But Goodies volunteer. It is
great to be able to call someone for help.
Not only do they know what they are talking about, but they really care about
how things are going.
I deeply appreciate the work of Oldies But Goodies and the heartfelt dedication
of its volunteers. As a demonstration
of my gratitude for the help they gave to me and Habibti, and to the hundreds of
other people and dogs they continue to
help, I make an annual donation to Oldies But Goodies.
My donation helps others, people and dogs, experience the joy that Habibti and I
share together. Whether it goes toward
medical bills, kennel costs, or the many other expenses, I know that my money is
being stretched as far as possible to
help as many dogs as possible.
If you have ever experienced the joy of having a dog so excited to see you come
home that she almost wags her tail off, or found peace just
sitting and petting a dog, I ask you to help bring that joy to others though
making a donation today to Oldies But Goodies.
Thank you for all your work and
dedication.
