Bert's foster mom, Debbie D, reports:
I just wanted to update you on our Bert- one of my foster babies, he was the one that was chained to a tree without food or water and was down to 10 pounds when the SPCA took him from his home. Bev got him from the Virginia shelter. After surgery: he had had a cancerous tumor (at the age of 2-4 yrs old), I fostered him until a wonderful family from southwestern Virginia adopted him. Their daughter learned about us from a WUSA Channel 9 news TV appearance).
The family called recently and said Bert was sitting outside on the screened in porch with "Mama Nancy", watching the sun set over the lake at their second home at Smith Mountain Lake. Bert now is at his maximum weight. The vet said 37 pounds! (He weighed 30 when he left my house) He is a tall boy. He's doing wonderful, they simply adore him and don't know how they ever lived without him.
They said he especially likes riding in the car and loves Dairy Queen! He's still a little "hand shy" of some strangers (I wonder why!) but warms up when he gets to know them. She said he really enjoys their bed at nights -- he leaves a little room for them. Bert is never alone, as Mama Nancy is retired and her husband comes home every day at lunch. Bert goes everywhere with them!!!!!!!
Good For Bert- he has the life he so deserves thanks to Oldies But Goodies -- every single one does count- no matter how few, or how many, we save!!!!!!!
