Dear
OBG,
Just
a quick note to tell you thank you for our wonderful dog Charlie (a.k.a Smokey)
who was adopted last summer.
We
had had a black cocker for 17 years. Our
Jesse was a wonderful military dog and had traveled many miles with us to
include two overseas tours. In his
old age he had numerous geriatric problems and he held on as long as he could
… unfortunately we had to put him to sleep in March of 2002.
A VERY difficult thing for our family, especially my husband.
For
months our house was free of doggie nose prints on the front glass door, the
odor of a dog was gone now, replaced with the clean house smell we were not used
to. This lasted for only two months
when our Vet (who cried harder than all of us when he put Jesse down) suggested
your organization. He even has your
flier up on his bulletin board. Unfortunately,
we did not want to adopt an older dog … not because they don't make good pets,
but because-we had just been through several years of geriatric dog vet problems
and wanted to start with a young dog. Not
only that, a black one.
A
month went by, we were searching your web site almost daily and then the phone
call came. There was a black, male,
10 month old at a foster home 30 miles south of us.
The foster mom recommended we not wait till the weekend to see him, he
might be gone. We fought the I-95
traffic south immediately to see him. He
was scraggly ... never had a haircut in his life, was not house trained, he had
gone on a puppy pad always and the foster mom said watch when we put him in the
grass .... he freaks out .... doesn't like the feel on his paws because he had
never been able to run outside. Not
only that but his previous owners had thought his tail too long and tried to cut
it by tying dental floss around his tail to kill the circulation .... this only
caused him gangrene and a trip to the vet's office.
As we sat in his foster mom's home she asked, "Well ... what do you
think?" My two girls and I said together...."It's up to Dad!" At
that point Charlie, who is completely involved with something else on the other
side of the room runs into Tim's lap and starts licking his face.
We were hooked .... and he came home that night.
My husband who had groomed our last cocker for 17 years couldn't wait 3
hours after he was brought home and groomed him right away ... as you can see by
his pictures .... he's beautiful.
He
is the joy of our lives. His has a
toy basket on each floor of the house. We
have a great yard where he loves to chase the squirrels.
He sleeps right between my husband and I on our bed each night and loves
to ride in the car. We miss our
Jesse but in many ways we feel the Lord provided Charlie to ease our pain.
We thank your organization for what you do for all the dogs you come in
contact with...... I wish in some way we remember the foster parents in Fredricksburg
to say thank you to them and send them these pictures.
A lovely lady and her husband with several cockers of her own and a great
big fenced yard. Please say thanks.
