Charlie Brown

Page last updated on Saturday, March 31, 2007.

Gentle Charlie Brown was with OBG for over a year. During that time, he had a cyst removed, battled mange and tested positive for Cushing's Disease. OBG didn't give up on this sweetheart though! We knew there was someone special out there looking for our boy Charles. He weathered all the storms set in his path and found a wonderful home in Pennsylvania with a mom, teenage children and a fellow rescued cocker "brother", Tyler.

Two days after he moved into his new home, Charlie Brown's new mom sent his foster mom this wonderful email:

Hi Kathi

I just wanted to let you know that Charlie is doing fine. He is eating very well and enjoying food. He loves to go for walks and actually keeps a vigorous pace! He has been sleeping in my bed at night and has not yet gotten up to wander about -- no accidents in the house either. Tyler and CB have become friends and have not had any arguments to date so I think they will be fine. I took CB to the vet on Monday for a check over -- his blood work came back fine, liver and kidney too. He does have a damaged facial nerve in his right cheek as we discussed. So he cannot close/blink his right eye and his jowl droops on that side as well. I need to put drops in his eye to keep it moist for him and so it won't get irritated. But with a little TLC, a little weight gain, he should come along nicely.

He adores my kids and they think he is really special. He loves to curl up with them after school and do homework or play the piano. He is such a sweet and gentle dog. I will be in touch and remember you are always welcome to come for a visit!

Take care,

Beth (Charlie Brown too!)

Here's another update (12/01):

Just wanted to catch you up on Charlie Brown!!!!  He went for all of
his Cushings tests this week and the results were splendid. His ACTH
test came back the most normal that it has ever been and all his other
blood work and urinalysis came back normal as well. So he is doing
great -- still is on the slender side, but his fur is just beautiful -
soft and long and silky. The longer that he is with us, I have come to
appreciate just how special he really is - never a mess, always happy,
sweet, and gentle to all - what a great, great cocker spaniel.  I can
take him anywhere.  We just love him to pieces!

Tyler, our other cocker, is doing well - seizures have been at a
minimum as long as I keep him out of ANY stressful situation - no vet
unless necessary, walking him late at night so he doesn't get excited
by people and other dogs, etc. He is such a sweetie and Charlie and him
are so funny together. I have "sedate CB" and the "crazy Ty-bear".
What a combo - sometimes Charlie gives Tyler this look like - what the
heck are you doing doggie? as Tyler takes off chasing or barking at
absolutely nothing!  You know "the look".

Take care.  Warmest regards,
Beth (Charlie too!)
