Chester spent a long time at Oldies But Goodies waiting for the perfect home. He finally found it in a Baltimore suburb. Here's what Andy, formerly Chester's, new mom has to say:

I adopted Andy on June 12th. Debbie Reitz showed us several dogs, but none seemed exactly a match. Andy was brought out, and after coming down the steps to meet me, he went back upstairs to the deck, stuck his nose between the rungs and let out a sigh as though to say, "She doesn't want me either." How sad! He immediately won my heart because he seemed to need someone to care about him. He is sooooo sweet and such a good boy!

After I got him home, he was very reticent and shy -- then all of the sudden he ran over to the windowsill and grabbed something and began to eat it. It was a starfish I had just brought back from North Carolina! Oops! I had to clear the room of all shells and starfish.

He warmed up to us after the first week, when he realized this was going to be his permanent home. He had a few accidents the first week, but we got a crate and that solved the problem. He appears to have been crate trained, because he will go in it to take a nap when he doesn't "have to be there". It's been six weeks now, and we are giving him the run of the house while we are at work, and so far he's done very well.

Andy is enrolled in dog obedience class at PetSmart for 8 weeks and he is at the head of the class!! The other dogs are much younger and don't listen, but Andy tries very hard -- after all, he gets liver treats for a job well done!

He attended his first family reunion this past weekend: he was an angel. andy is working out terrifically!! I'm so glad to have him. Please consider adoptiong one of these sweet rescued dogs -- they will more than reward you for your time and efforts.

Andy is older than we originally believed, probably closer to 8, but my last cocker was 8 years old when we got him and we enjoyed him for 5 and 1/2 years. Older dogs offer many benefits and positive traits that puppies and young dogs don't. Give thoughtful consideration to opening your heart and home to one of these older rescued cockers -- you'll never regret you did.
