Duke, an English springer spaniel who found his way into Oldies But Goodies Cocker Rescue, is another example of a perfect match. Duke now lives in Bethesda.
Duke's new mom writes:
Duke is a real kick -- from the moment he wakes us, at about 6 o'clock every morning, until he falls asleep at night -- he's usually wearing his goofy grin, and waiting to see what will happen next. He's forgotten he ever growled at anybody; you can touch him anywhere. He goes to the groomers and comes back with nails cut and bows in his ears.
He still has his crate, but almost never sleeps in it, unless we are travelling, then it makes him feel secure. He's great in the car; loves to travel and spends his time looking out the window. He likes to go to the beach, and will go wading now -- he'd never seen water, I guess, because he doesn't seem to know about swimming.
He's even learning to retrieve -- and LET GO of the object. He's figured out that we can't throw it again until he lets go!
We've had plenty of exercise since we got him -- so good for us all. He DOES have one fault: he still barks like crazy when another dog comes near, but he's learned that's not so scary (although it may scare the other dog)! And we've learned all kinds of routes where we don't bump into other dogs.
Thank you so much for brightening our lives with such a character -- Duke entertains us all day.
