Emma Lou

(Formerly Emma)

Emma as she  appeared on the website

Emma Lou. I do not know where to begin. Lisa an OBG rep. asked me to foster Emma during Emma’s recovery from surgery to repair her right leg. I first met Emma at Lisa’s house. She was such a sweet dog. I thought to my self how could anyone not care enough for a dog and not have Emma’s leg repaired. While I had taken this task on, I had another dog that I had previously adopted from OBG. He also needed surgery on his ears. His surgery went fine. As it turned out there was only one dog recovering from surgery. Emma’s leg could not be operated on. It had healed by itself, even though it did not heal correctly. The doctor said, ‘He would be afraid to operate, in fear that she might not walk as well as she was." The only thing we could do at this point was giving her medication in hopes of keeping the pain down. She has her good days and her bad days. She likes the warm sunny days so she can lie in the sun as if to warm her bad leg.

After all she has been through, she really loves to take walks. I put her little coat on her when it is cold outside. She rolls on her back so I can snap her coat and she is ready to go.

Emma Lou from day one has got along with my other dog Barney. She at first would chase my cats. She has stopped that. Barney and Emma Lou are like, how do you say it, "two peas in a pod." They both greet me at the door when I come home from work, as if to say, "Welcome home daddy. We missed you." They both love to go for rides in my truck. They "jockey" for position to see who is going to be next to me If I pull the keys out of my pocket, they are waiting at the door, ready to go for a ride. Wherever I go they want to be there with me. I take them to Home Depot with me and put them into the shopping cart and push them around. Emma Lou and Barney ride in the cart together and sit up so everyone can see them and get more attention from the people who stop to greet them. If I could I would take them to work with me.

Emma Lou acts like she is starved for attention. I will be on the floor petting Barney, and she just "butts" her way in to be the one in the middle. She wants to be the one who gets all the attention. Luckily Barney does not get jealous. She greets everyone that comes into her yard or house. She likes everyone, big and small.

I believe one of her favorite pastimes is to sleep. She either is asleep on the floor or on the couch. I tell her its time to go to bed and in the bedroom she goes and she will sit and wait by the edge of the bed until I pick her up and put her on the bed. Sometimes she will growl at my other dog when she is in my bed as if to say, " Move over, this is my space." The cat has got so used to the dogs she will even get into the bed with the dogs.

Her Favorite Pastime

Emma Lou loves her rawhide bones. She will even "hoard" them from her "buddy" Barney. If you take them from her or make her leave the bone in the house, she remembers exactly where she left it. One of her favorite places to leave them is on the couch or beside the "computer cabinet," since she likes to be wherever I am. She will even try to take them to bed with her.

Emma Lou and her "buddy" Barney

Emma Lou loves to be groomed. She loves you to comb and brush her. She does not really like to get a bath. She cooperates a little bit. After all is said and done she looks as if to say, "I am beautiful lady now daddy."

She truly is the Queen of the house!

Her Proud Father,

Jesse
