Duke
Passing Date: July 20, 2009 It is with profound sadness that I write to OBG to tell you of our Cocker Spaniel Duke's passing on Monday, July 20, 2009. Duke passed quietly and comfortably, surrounded by his family who loved him very, very much. We held him in our arms, pet his head, rubbed his ears and told him how much we all loved him and that he was the best dog in the world. Duke had been suffering from the affects of kidney disease and his vision had faded over the last year. We steadfastly addressed all his medical needs and he received the very best veterinarian care from the doctors and techs at Oaks North Animal Clinic here in San Antonio. They are very saddened by Dukes passing and were present to say goodbye to him as well. Over the last three years they had come to love Duke too. Duke has meant so much to our family. He came into our lives at a time when we needed to fill the emptiness after our last cocker spaniel Corky had passed away at 12 years old. Our house had been so quiet following Corkys death. Having Duke provided all of us with the life and joy we needed. Words cannot express how much he has meant to me. A wagging tail, a big cold nose, loving eyes and a growly voice always there. Even though Duke was deaf, he was never slowed down or impeded. I only wish he was able to hear me tell him what a great dog he was, how much we all loved him, how very much he will be missed and how very important he was to all of us. Six years passes much too fast when you have a dog like Duke. We adopted Duke in May 2003 when we were living in Virginia Beach. Duke was with us for six wonderful years. Adopting a rescue dog was one of the best experiences of my life. We are so thankful to your organization for bringing Duke to our family. We love Duke and we will never forget him. HE REALLY WAS A DUKE! Sincerely, The Schaffert Family PS Marry thanks from Duke to all the folks of OBG for the love and care he received.
