Kayla
Hi all, We are Seth and Vivian Lovern and we adopted Kayla (brown and
white particolor 8 year old) from OBG back in 1999. Sadly, Kayla passed away on
Saturday, Dec. 6, 2003. She was 1 month shy of turning 13! Kayla died at the
Leesburg Emergency Vet Hospital because her heart was literally too big. She
picked a good day to "go", if there ever was one. Seth and I were both
home. I had just finished grooming her and her brother Baobao and let them out
into our yard. Seth let the dogs back in and Kayla had some trouble coming up
the stairs to come back in. A few seconds later, she started panting heavily and
collapsed on the kitchen floor. I sat and held her while Seth tried to find an
open vet. Kayla seemed to be very tired and kept passing out, but was not in
pain. We took off for the emergency vet hospital and Kayla passed away
soon after we got there. Afterwards, the vet showed us x-rays of her heart (they
had just taken them to see what was going on). It had almost filled the chest
cavity! One of her chambers had failed-either from a tumor growing in or just
being an old dog--so it wasn't pumping enough blood around (making her so
tired). We were so sad, but very glad that we were both there for her final day. I went into labor that night (too much stress??) and we had a little girl,
Alexis Noelle. I'm sure Kayla would have loved her and regret very much that
they did not get to meet. Thanks again for rescuing Kayla! She was really a perfect dog
for us and I'm pretty sure she thought so, too. Here are pictures of Kayla
enjoying two of her favorite things--sleeping and keeping Viv company (this one
was during the baby shower). Thanks again- Viv, Seth, Lexi, and BaoBao Lovern
