Birthdate: Unknown

Passing Date: December 24, 2004
Dear Susan (OBG volunteer),
I have been struggling for the better part of a month now to write this letter.
I am writing it with a heavy heart
and unimaginable sorrow as I had no choice but to have my beloved, loyal,
faithful companion, Moey, put to sleep the day
before Christmas. Tests performed on December 20th were conclusive that Moey had
hemolytic anemia. I knew the
prognosis was not good as there is no cure, but with medication and treatment he
had a day-to-day, 50/50 chance.
Despite every effort of the doctors and Moey's encouraging response to an
oxyglobin transfusion, it became obvious he wasn't going to survive as his heart
and lungs were now affected, making it difficult for him to breathe. It was time
for me to say "goodbye".
As I sat next to him, petting him, the tears were flowing uncontrollably. Moey
raised his head and leaned against me. I think he was trying to console me.
Everything happened so fast. It is difficult to understand how he could be so
sick when there was no significant change in his activity, diet or routine until
the morning I took him to the vet because he seemed lethargic and didn't want to
get up.
It was July 20, 2002, two and a half years ago at the Springfield Petsmart that
I first met this cute, soft, buff colored dog. He was 8 or 9 then, and it didn't
take long to know Moey was the dog I wanted to adopt. We seemed to bond
immediately.
Moey was active. He loed to go on walks, chase the squirrels in the yard, run
after his tennis ball, and he was the best traveler. He loved to be around
people. The only health problem he had from day one was yeast otitis. I couldn't
have asked for a more loving pet.
Susan, you and Sandra did the home check and Marilyn was Moey's foster Mom. She
told me he was "special, and a real gentleman", and it was true. I miss him so
much, and there will always be a place in my heart for Moey. He was my "Special
Little Guy"
