Shelby Born:
February 4, 1987 (honorary birthday) Dedicated by Jim Mich, Tracey Denning, her sister Lucky, Uncle Lowell, Aunt Ginny, and cousin Mia We found Shelby at the Montgomery County Shelter in 1998. She had one day left before she was scheduled to be put down. Someone had thrown her away when she was 11 years old, and the shelter said no one had looked at her during the weeks she spent there. She was very weak, had skin and ear problems, and probably hadn't been to a vet in years. But she was sweet, and had a constantly wagging tail. With the right treatment (thyroid pills - $30 per year) she quickly turned into a happy and healthy little girl.Shelby immediately took our bichon frise, Lucky, under her wing and taught her everything she knew -- how to bark at the mailman, garbage man & strange dogs; how to chase squirrels and; most importantly, how to suck up to Mommy and Daddy for treats. She loved TV and watched Animal Planet religiously. She also liked Wheel of Fortune. Her Mommy once walked into the room and saw her intently watching a roundtable discussion on the Middle East on CNN. She followed the plot of Lady and the Tramp and jumped for joy at the end when Tramp perks his head up after it appeared he had been killed in the car accident. She also loved bubbles, and would happily chase them in a stream, or jump to catch soap bubbles blown at her. Shelby worshiped us. We are convinced that she knew she got a second lease on life, and she seemed determined to make it all worth it to us. We miss her profoundly, but are thrilled that we were blessed with four wonderful years from such a happy loving creature.
