We first met Tango at an adoption show when he arrived from a kennel where he had been for several months. His previous owner was no longer able to care for him. Tango’s soulful, trusting eyes and desire for affection tugged at everyone’s heart. Lori quickly volunteered to take him home as a foster. Although we weren’t planning on adopting a “Senior” dog as a companion for our other OBG cocker, Tucker, there was something about Tango that kept us coming back to him. It was the second trip to Lori’s and Chris’s that erased any doubt (his age, deafness & arthritis were all concerns). When Tango tugged on my husband’s pant leg, we knew he was the one for us.

During the short time we had Tango, these were some of his “favorites”:

Favorite Activities: Walks - Always the first one out the door. He “strutted” with head held high, always keenly on the lookout for squirrels, cats and other humans willing to stop and give a few pats on the head.

Car rides – He’d perch on the front seat calmly and contentedly taking it all in.

Chasing light beams – First discovered when we were using a flash light. All it took was a beam of sunshine bounced off a watch or other object to set Tango off, barking and trying to capture the moving object.

Being petted – Tango loved people. He would nudge his head under an idle hand in search of constant head petting. Belly rubs were equally sought after.

Favorite Foods: Ice cream & green beans, but like all cockers, food in general. His nose could track down any potential treat. While with Lori and Chris he determined the way to get a chicken from the table to the floor was to tug on the tablecloth. Mission accomplished! My husband once left a loaf of bread a little too close to the edge of the counter. He came home to find an empty wrapper and a few crumbs. Trash cans and dog food needed to be well secured. We often caught Tango in the yard snacking on dirt.

Favorite Beverage: Toilet water. We became accustomed to hearing the clunk and barks as Tango tried to get the toilet seat up. We would find him staring at the toilet & trying valiantly to get the seat up (never succeeded in this area).

Favorite Toys: Tango loved tennis balls and chewing on his hard bones. When it was meal time his ritual was to grab his bone in his mouth and prance into the kitchen after my husband where he would then quickly drop it on the floor with a big clunk.

Favorite Sleeping Position: On his back – feet and belly up in the air.

Tango, saying goodbye to you was one of the hardest days of our lives. We will always remember your inquisitive looks, happy funny noises, and cocked head looking at us with soulful and trusting eyes, along with your mischievous and snoopy traits. You were our special “buddy boy” and shared your love and affection with everyone you met. Thank you for enriching our lives in so many ways. We miss you!!

Love, Cathy and David
